Since the dawn of Hollywood, there have been many different actors who have made their mark on the industry and on the hearts of moviegoers throughout the world. Here are our top 10 most famous actors in America!





1) Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis has been in the acting business since 1976, but he didn't really come into his own until the mid-1980s when he starred in Die Hard. The movie, which was released on July 15, 1988, turned out to be a huge success and helped catapult Willis to becoming one of Hollywood's most iconic actors. It also gave us one of cinema's best action movie lines: Yippee ki-yay! In addition to being known for appearing in movies like Pulp Fiction, Moonlighting and Sin City, Willis is also an avid golfer. In 2010, he founded the Everybody Hits charity golf tournament that benefits underprivileged children who have difficulties playing sports because they can't afford equipment or uniforms.



2) George Clooney

George Clooney was born on May 6, 1961. He was a student at Augusta High School in Augusta, Kentucky where he played football and baseball. George graduated from Augusta High School in 1979. He attended Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati before leaving to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. His first big break came when he starred alongside his friend Danny DeVito in the TV series Taxi (1978-1983). George later went on to star in many other movies including Batman & Robin (1997), Out of Sight (1998) and Gravity (2013).



3) Leonardo DiCaprio

DiCaprio's first Oscar win was for best actor in a leading role for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant. In addition to that, he also won an Academy Award for best original screenplay. DiCaprio has also been nominated five other times, three of those nominations were for best actor and two were for best director. He has received four Golden Globe Awards (winning twice), seven BAFTA Awards (winning once) and six Emmy awards (winning once). He will next be seen in the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with Brad Pitt.



4) Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. was born on April 4, 1965 in New York City and has been acting for more than 30 years. His best known films include the Iron Man films, Tropic Thunder, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Chaplin. In addition to his film roles he has also starred in several television series including Ally McBeal and Sherlock Holmes. Robert has won two Academy Awards; one for Best Actor and one for Best Supporting Actor. 

He was married to Deborah Falconer from 1989 until their divorce in 2001. 

In 2003 he married Susan Levin with whom he had two children before they divorced in 2005. The following year he married producer Susanne O'Leary with whom he now has three children with, who just celebrated their first birthday last week!



5) Matt Damon

Matt Damon is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter. He has received various accolades including an Academy Award and multiple Golden Globe Awards. Damon began his career by appearing in such films as Mystic Pizza (1988), Good Will Hunting (1997), Saving Private Ryan (1998), and the Ocean’s trilogy (2001-2007). For his performance in the latter he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture. Damon has also starred in commercially successful films such as The Martian (2015) and Jason Bourne (2016), both of which grossed over $250 million worldwide.



6) Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is an American film actor, producer and musician. He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. His films have grossed over $3.1 billion at the United States box office, making him the fifth highest-grossing U.S. domestic box office star. He has been nominated for major acting awards, including three nominations for Academy Awards. In 2010, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.



7) Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford has acted in many of the all-time classic movies, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Blade Runner. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Witness. His other notable films include The Fugitive and Air Force One. In addition to acting, he served as executive producer on a number of TV series such as Frasier and Arrested Development.
