Amazing Fact: Zhong Shanshan Is the World's Richest Person
Creating over $10 Billion in wealth in 2018 alone, the worlds richest person just happens to be Zhong Shanshan, not Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, or Warren Buffett. How did this happen? Let’s take a look at her life to discover some amazing facts you didn’t know about Zhong Shanshan.
She graduated from college at 20
In 2001, when she was 20 years old, Zhong entered Peking University. In just three years she earned her undergraduate degree from China’s prestigious institution. She went on to earn a law degree from Peking University in 2005. She has an estimated net worth of $14 billion: According to Forbes, Zhong has an estimated net worth of $14 billion. That means that if you added up all of her assets and possessions they would be worth around $14 billion.
His Friend Was Jackes Ma
This is a fun fact that shows how powerful her vision was at an early age. A $10 investment made in 1997 by one of her classmates—Alibaba founder Jack Ma—would be worth more than $5.5 billion today, Bloomberg reports. Another classmate, Ma Huateng, also famous for founding Tencent Holding Ltd., would've turned a $1 investment into around $3 billion today. Ma’s schoolmates have since gone on to become some of China’s most successful entrepreneurs and businesspeople. Zhong has said she doesn't feel any rivalry with them; instead, she praises their accomplishments and considers herself lucky to have been able to benefit from their influence.
She made her first million at 21
In China, becoming a millionaire before age 21 is quite an achievement. In fact, it’s not something that just anyone can do. But for one Chinese entrepreneur named Zhong Shanshan, it was only normal to become a self-made millionaire at such a young age. When she was just 20 years old, Zhong had already achieved her goal of making $1 million in revenues from her company. And today? She has become China’s first ever self-made billionaire! Talk about amazing. It really goes to show that anything is possible if you set your mind and work hard enough. Even if you are a woman, it shouldn’t matter either way.
The secret to success?
Chinese billionaire, 48-year-old Zhong Shanshan is now officially recognized as being in possession of greater wealth than Bill Gates. Anil Bhardwaj from WealthX, which conducts global research on ultrawealthy people, made a bold statement last year and declared that by 2018 China will be home to more self-made female billionaires than any other country. He also added that China was already home to over 100 self-made female billionaires. Since then he has been proven right on his prediction.
At 30, she was worth $1.9 billion
Zhong, who grew up in poverty, wasn't always a billionaire. At 30, she was worth $1.9 billion, according to China Daily . Growing up in one of China's poorest provinces, she couldn't even afford her own bed -- and had to settle for sleeping on an old mattress on a friend's floor. But now that mattress is likely worth more than most Americans' entire homes. She told CNNMoney that she never expected to become so rich so quickly: I never thought I'd be No 1, said Zhong. It happened too fast. She has already given away most of her money: In 2013, just two years after becoming China's richest woman, Zhong announced plans to give away 99% of her wealth through her charity foundation , which focuses on health care and education initiatives in rural areas across China.
She avoids luxury brands and lives in a modest apartment
While business analysts will say that her talent and drive are responsible for her incredible wealth, I like to think it’s because she’s thrifty. One look at Ms. Zhang and you can tell she prefers quality over quantity. For example, a Louis Vuitton logo can be spotted on her bag, but not anywhere else (meaning no Louis Vuitton purse!). Not only is she one of China’s most successful businesswomen, but in my opinion, one of its most stylish ones too!
Her next goal? To be China's first woman to reach Mars.
In September 2016, Liu Cixin became China’s first winner of a Hugo Award, sometimes called the Oscars of sci-fi. His book The Three-Body Problem was adapted into a popular series by state broadcaster China Central Television. But he has said that his next goal is to be China’s first woman to reach Mars – and he wants her name to be Zhong Shanshan. She would be remembered as an outstanding person in history, says Liu. He believes she will have accomplished that feat by 2049 – 100 years after Mao Zedong founded modern China. Title: Amazing Fact: Zhong Shanshan Is the World's Richest Person
