1) He was almost a baseball player

Hanks had a brief stint as a baseball player. He was drafted in the 8th round of the 1979 Major League Baseball Draft by the California Angels, but he decided to focus on acting instead.

Hanks was born in Concord, CA on July 9, 1956. His mother's name is Janet Marylyn and his father's name is Amos Mefford Hanks Jr. Tom's childhood friend inspired him to be an actor because he would play the leading man in their backyard plays.
